Our teaching team is growing!
India Harville will join bruin to teach the next Tap Into Your Wise Body: An Intro to Sensations class offerings. Read more about India here!

We are extending our Intro course from 6-weeks to 7-weeks to better hold the learning container.

We are also more formally offering POC-majority and Open options for our courses. We have always been clear that our identity markers (our class, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, age, etc) impact the ways we have survived, the ways we show up and what we need out of classes.  One place that this has showed up starkly in our classes was around the racialized experiences of embodiment.   The intention of the POC majority group and open group is to have more deliberate space to explore these differences in our respective communities. Apply now for the next Intro course!

India & bruin dish on their new collaboration, what body-based healing offers social justice movements, the genius of disabled&chronically ill healers and their current life soundtracks.

I started offering online group classes with a very specific goal.

I want us to have more effective tools that we can source in times of stress and intensity to address, heal and prevent future harm within our communities.

I know that it was a misnomer that survivors and perpetrators existed on some sort of binary. I know that our attempts to hold folks accountable were often bound in the very systems of oppression that propagate violence to begin with.

I know that wounded people often wound other people.

And I want to give folks body-based tools to better align their actions with their values.

I want to give folks body-based tools to sit with impact when they committed harm and body-based tools to develop other ways of being.

I want to give folks body-based tools so we can catch the mistakes and the harm when it’s smaller and more easily shifted.

I want to give folks body-based tools because I don’t think most of us are taught about boundaries and consent, noticing and recovering from triggers, saying no and being able to sit with other people’s no’s, and moving from survival to living.

And our good ideas about those things are NOT cutting it.

We need muscle memory.
We need liberatory muscle memory.
We need liberatory accessible muscle memory.

And the online somatic skills classes are born.

I want us to start small.

Because before we grapple with boundaries and consent and triggers and survival strategies, we need to learn how to be with our bodies.

  • How to discern between thoughts, emotions & sensations.
  • How to build our capacity to be with our sensations.
  • How to put our energy into curiosity about the nuances of our sensations rather than the intricacies of our stories.
  • How to notice what's too much & what's not enough.
  • How to create healing on a nervous system level.

The building blocks of those skills will inform bigger concepts.

And because we are building a solid foundation, we will set ourselves up for greater success.

Little consistent bites add up to big impact.

In 2019, the classes offered will include several rounds of Tap Into Your Wise Body: An Intro to Sensations, a six-week (now SEVEN-week) hourly introduction; an ongoing Drop-in Practice Space for graduates of the Intro course; and in the Fall,  we plan to start offering All Things Trigger: Building a Response Instead of a Reaction, a six-week two-hour exploration and practice.

Tap Into Your Wise Body is a prerequisite for both the Drop-in Practice Space and the All Things Trigger classes.

Please check the calendar below for more information about the timing of the classes and sign up for our newsletter for future information.
